Welcome to Soma Yoga and Yoga Therapy with Steph (formally Conditioning Yoga with Steph).
Soma Yoga blends Thomas Hanna’s somatic muscle re-education with classic asana and therapeutic yoga, with a focus on functional movement and freedom of expression.
In Somatics, Soma is the body as perceived from within. The idea is that when we are more fully present in our bodies, freedom arises in mind, body, and spirit. In ancient Greece, the unity of all three was referred to as a soma.
Soma is also a Sanskrit (the language of yoga) term that derives from the root word ‘su’, meaning to energize, expand and grow. Soma refers to Lunar energy, otherwise known as cosmic plasma. It is the subtlest form of matter and makes up the essence of Ojas, an essential energy responsible for vitality, health, and wellness.
Soma Yoga with Steph is a gentle meditative practice which is appropriate for all levels of experience. Nestled in the quiet surrounds of Berowra bushlands, my little studio provides a welcoming and inclusive space for you to escape a busy life, full of competing demands, and realign your focus inwards to promote vitality and peace.
My recently completed post graduate diploma in yoga therapy has allowed me to specialise my skill set and offer a unique one-on-one therapeutic experience. Together we co-create a practice using all the tools of yoga to support your personal goal.
